What the Bible says about SALVATION

It all starts with realizing two things:

  • That YOU are a sinner
  • That YOU can not do anything to remove or erase your sin

The Bible says: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” in Romans 3:23

AND

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; “ in Isaiah 64:6

We like to think that we are good, and that we do good things, but a righteous God sees the truth about us.

God says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” in Jeremiah 17:9

The answer to the question, who can know man’s heart?, is... GOD CAN KNOW IT!

God knows about every lie we have ever told, every thing we have ever taken. He knows about the hurt we have caused, and how we have cheated others to get what we want. We can’t fool God, he KNOWS that we are a sinner! (See Romans 1:28-32)

If the BEST that we can produce is filthy rags, then we have no hope for dealing with our own sins.

With the realization that we are sinners, we need to understand that there is a price to be paid for our sin!

The scriptures say, “For the wages of sin is death;” in Romans 6:23

This is not just a physical death, but it includes a ‘second death’.

Revelation 20:14 tell us, “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

So, to pay the price for our sin, we have to pay the one that we sinned against!

God is HOLY and He is ETERNAL, so to pay the price to God for sin, we have to pay an ETERNAL PRICE!

If you die in your sins, you will go to hell and eventually be cast into the lake of fire spoken of in Revelation 20:14

BUT THERE IS GOOD NEWS!

The second half of Romans 6:23 above contains this good news…

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Did you SEE that?

God is offering us a GIFT…a FREE GIFT of ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.
God knew that as men, we would never be able to live a righteous life.

He knew that without his help, we would never be able to pay for our own sins, and that He would have to sentence us to hell, and to be cast into the lake of fire.

So God sent His Son to do what we could not. He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ to live on earth as a man, and live a sinless life!

Then, Jesus gave His life for us by dying on the cross at Calvary. A gruesome death by crucifixion at the hands of his own people, and the Romans.

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The Bible says of Jesus, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” in 2 Corinthians 5:21

Jesus Christ died, was buried and rose again after 3 days and ascended to heaven to sit at the right hand of God the Father.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;” Hebrews 10:12

Jesus Christ paid the price of ALL of our sins and we need only to accept HIS payment!

Choosing not to accept Jesus Christ’s payment for sin means that YOU have to pay for your own sin.

At this point, you may be asking the same question as a certain jailer in Acts 16:30, who asked… “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

If you understand and accept all of the above, then the only thing left for you to do is to RECEIVE the FREE GIFT!

Romans Chapter 10 and verses 9 & 10 tell us what needs to be done:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

And that is ALL.

To think that we have to DO something to be saved is to REJECT what Jesus Christ did, and to reject his payment for our sins.

We only need to accept his payment for our sins.

If you would like to accept Jesus Christ’s payment for you sins and be saved, you do that right now by praying the sinner’s prayer of salvation.

Right now pray to God and accept his free gift. You don’t have to pray these exact words…but here is an example of what you should pray.

God, I know that I am a sinner and that the price for my sin is death and hell. I thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ to die for my sins.

I now accept Jesus Christ’s payment for my sin.

If you prayed and truly meant it, then you have accepted Jesus Christ’s payment for your sin and you are saved!

The Bible tells us that, “I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth…

Just as God and Jesus Christ are eternal…his payment for your sin is also eternal. This means that you are ETERNALLY SAVED, and there is nothing you must do to keep salvation. Just as there was nothing you could do to earn it in the first place!
